For the last 6 months, I've struggled with negotiation and selling myself. Of course, thankfully lessons learned from my family frustrations occassionally did save me from high-stakes situation, like negotiatioting fees for your high school or requesting pardon over fine for arriving late to high school(very common of me). Especially, if you read my old posts there is a post which I wrote immediately after I was frustrated because I couldn't get my dad to agree over allowing me to go with relatives to a trip towards Abottabad (search Abottabad in blog search to get that post). Considering my geeky and lack of selling skills, I asked my friend Abdur Rahman to compress content of Getting to Yes and this was his answer:
Tip #1: Always keep your emotions in limits.
Tip #2: Use less words meaning words that you can easily make sense out of (meaning words which make complete sense).
Tip #3: Use the method of 'Principled Negotiation' if you can't negotiate 'your way'.
Tip #4: Never negotiate/bargain over positions (it never makes sense). This kind of negotiation disturbs relationships and turn potential allies into enemies, which really adds up to your frustations!
That's it!
